Kiefer Sutherland Is The New Snake

Today During Konmai’s Pre-E3 show we finally get confirmation that David Hayter is no longer the voice behind Snake. Instead we get the actor Kiefer Sutherland. For those not aware who Kiefer Sutherland is, he is a long time actor. Most known for his protagonist role In 24 as Jack Bower.

Kiefer Sutherland expressed his excitement undertaking about the job “It’s an honor to be able to play this character. This character has an unbelievable legacy.” He added, “I’m not a gamer and I even knew about this game. I was certainly keenly aware of the legacy of these games, and the unbelievable success of these games.

For old school MGS fans this may be a bit disappointing, however Kojima did give some logic behind the choice. MGSV takes place with Snake in his late 40’s, Kojima wanted someone who could genuinely convey look and sound of Snake in his older age.

“”The themes are a little different from previous games in the series, we’re taking on some heavy subjects, like race and revenge. As a result, I wanted Snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice, rather than words.” Kojima said. He continued on to say, “It’s different from anything we’ve done before, I felt that he was the perfect fit, in terms of age and performance.”

So to all the Metal Gear fans out there, what do you think of the change? Do you think these drastic changes were nessecary for the game to evolve the franchise in a story telling aspect?
