CD Projekt Red announces The Witcher 3 expansion pass

CD Projekt Red, developers of the esteemed Witcher franchise, have today announced details of their post-launch support for the game.

Previously, the developer promised that most downloadable content for the Witcher 3 would be free for players. The developer had mentioned that this was referring to the smaller bits and pieces, and that the team would never charge for things like the recently announced Beard and Hairstyle sets and Alternative Look for Yennefer packs.

But with this announcement, it appears the Polish developer will still charge for more substantial add-ons. The first, titled Hearts of Stone, will take players through a ten hour (plus) adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land. The second, Blood and Wine, is more substantial and will last for twenty hours (or more) and will introduce an all new region to the game.

The first expansion will release in October while the second expansion will release in the first quarter of 2016.

The Expansion Pass allows both to be purchased at a reduced cost, but the co-founder of CD Projekt Red is surprisingly upfront about it: –
“While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call,”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is due for release in Australia on Tuesday, the 19th of May. Local pricing for the Expansion Pass has yet to be announced.
