The Traitorous Tanya Joins Mortal Kombat X Roster

Mortal Kombat X players who purchased the Kombat Pack can today begin playing as Tanya, a character who first made her debut to the series in Mortal Kombat 4 and is known for being one of the most traitorous, backstabbing characters in the entire series. Those who have not purchased the Kombat Pack will have to wait until next week to purchase her separately.

Unlike her appearance in Mortal Kombat X’s story mode, Tanya appears with a full set of variations as well as a brand new redesign. Most of her common moves are fairly signature to her – including her drill kick – but she has other more typical moves like teleports which can create some interesting mix-ups to make her one of the more exciting characters in the game.

MKX-Tanya-01Her three variations are Pyromancer, Kobujutsu and Dragon Naginata. Pyromancer grants Tanya the ability to wield fire and gives her many projectile options as well as abilities that enhance their effect on her opponents. Kobujutsu gives Tanya a set of damaging tonfas to do battle with and changes her entire skillset, incorporating the weapons in her combo attacks as well as special moves. Dragon Naginata gives Tanya a spear which gives her more reach and allows her to enter stances to create interesting chains of attacks.

If you’ve got the Kombat Pack, Tanya comes with three extra costumes for other characters themed around their initial appearances in the original Mortal Kombat. Liu Kang, Kano and Sonya all get the retro treatment in this pack, which is also available to purchase separately next week.
