It Takes Two Review

It Takes Two Has Sold Over 16 Million Copies

Huge!

It Takes Two, developer Hazelight’s excellent 2021 co-operative platforming adventure, has reached a massive sales milestone of 16 million copies sold in the three years since it launched. The game, which earned the #6 spot in our 2021 Game of the Year rankings, had crossed the 10 million mark in February 2023 so it’s seemingly managed to secure another 6 million sales in just the past year alone.

Hazelight celebrated the milestone with an adorable piece of new art and a message that reads, “Today is not only the three year anniversary for It Takes Two… The game has now sold over 16 MILLION units!!! Mind-blowing that over 30 million fans have now played it, love you all so much.  What a way to start off a very exciting year…”

As the post points out, 16 million sales of a game that requires two to play means that well over 30 million players have checked out It Takes Two, which is huge. The message also ends with a bit of a tease that there’s more news to come from Hazelight this year.

We already know that It Takes Two is being adapted into a feature film by Amazon, but it’s also been a good few years so I’m sure the world is ready to see what Josef Fares and the team at Hazelight has been cooking up since.

We scored It Takes Two a 7.5/10 in our review in 2021, with Brodie saying, “Although the story of Cody and May doesn’t meet the standards set by the game’s varied gameplay, It Takes Two sees the continued form of Josef Fares and his team at Hazelight in crafting wonderfully creative and engaging worlds for players to share and collaborate in. It Takes Two is a co-op experience that’s second to none, which offers more ways than you can imagine to experience these larger than life play spaces.”
