Nintendo Switch Update 16.0.0

The Nintendo Switch’s New 17.0.0 Firmware Update Adds Stability And Removes Testicles

Nuts.

Nintendo has rolled out it next major firmware update for the Switch, bringing it up to version 17.0.0.

As has been the case more and more as the Switch ages, these updates – even ones that move the console onto a new whole number like this – don’t seem to be doing a whole lot. Nintendo’s support page simply describes the update as “General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”

Luckily, thanks to internet citizens like OatmealDome, we actually know a little bit more about what this update is doing under the hood.

They start by saying that, “Pretty much every system component was updated. This is normal for major updates, as the entire OS is rebuilt with a newer SDK version. It’ll probably take a bit for those smarter than me to investigate the exact changes.”

More interesting though, is that Nintendo also took the opportunity to update its list of banned works on the system, removing the ability for users to type out “thot” and “reeee” in all languages. The new update has also removed several slang terms for testicles that Japanese-speaking players were using to evade Nintendo’s censorship.

I’d really like to know what those are.
