Mortal Kombat X Will Revive An Old Fatality Type

Always one to tease, Ed Boon has provided a small tidbit of information that might get fans of classic Mortal Kombat excited. In an interview with IGN, Ed Boon told IGN that his team at Netherrealm Studios will be reinstating an “ality” from the previous games into Mortal Kombat X. Of course, he’s unable to tell us just which one will be making a return as of yet.

The 2011 rendition of Mortal Kombat featured fatalities as well as babalities from the previous games. Any fan of the series would know that leaves Friendships, Animalities and Brutalities are the only ones that remain from previous games that will realistically be considered for a sequel.

Friendships were the softer of the three, allowing players to humiliate their enemy by displaying acts of friendships during their last moments of life. Animalities were more gruesome, allowing each character to change into their own type of animal in order to finish off their enemy. Brutalities are quite possibly the worst of the bunch, seeing characters beat their enemies to a bloody pulp until they explode (in typical Mortal Kombat fashion).

Of course, this might all be a distraction and Boon and his team might be implementing Hara-Kiri back into the game. Featured in Deception and Deception only, these finishing moves allowed characters to finish themselves off in a gruesome fashion rather than giving their enemy the satisfaction of doing so.

Presumably, more will be revealed closer to launch.

Mortal Kombat X will be launching on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 some time in 2015. Ed Boon clarified that a release date will be announced in coming weeks. Netherrealm themselves will handling the Xbox One and Playstation 4 studios, while an as of yet unnamed studio will be handling development of other versions.
