LittleBigPlanet Servers to be Shut Down in Japan

In an interesting move by PlayStation of Japan, servers for all of the existing LittleBigPlanet games are set to be shut down on July 31 of this year.

The shutdown not only affects all LBP titles on the PlayStation 3 and PSP, but also the more recent ones on the PS Vita and PS4, with the newest being LittleBigPlanet 3.

The shutdown will affect multiple areas of the game, such as online play and community functions, as well as the ability to play through and upload custom stages around the world. It is unsure what has driven PlayStation Japan to shut down the servers, however it could be pointed at the low sales of LittleBigPlanet 3 as well as low user numbers on older games.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Western releases of these games will suffer the same fate, but only time will tell.
