Earlier it was reported that when asked whether the 4K and HDR patches that were announced to come to older games were free or would cost money, Masayasu Ito, an executive vice president for Sony said that “it will be different for each title,” depending on “the thinking of each licensee” as translated by Kotaku.
However, it has since been confirmed that Sony have no plans to charge players for any future patches that will implement 4K or HDR into older games.
Jack Sipich, founder of Absinthe Games has stressed that developers “are not allowed to charge you for patches or [PS4 Pro] feature updates”, as outlined in a NeoGaf post.
