Nintendo Switch Is Selling Faster Than PS4 Did At Launch In Japan

Today’s Media Creates figures gives us an update on how the Nintendo Switch is doing in Japan.

We can now see that the Nintendo Switch has sold more than 500,000 units in Japan and only took four weeks to reach this number. The Global Testfire of Splatoon 2 definitely helped lift this number up in the last week.

When the PS4 launched back in February 2014, it took seven weeks to reach the half-million milestone in Japan. This was due to the fact that there weren’t any prominent Japanese games in the console lineup.

Interestingly enough, despite this Nintendo Switch figure seeming decent, the Nintendo Wii U was able to sell a higher figure of consoles in only three weeks, but we all know how that turned out long-term.

It’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo can keep up momentum for Nintendo Switch with a solid amount of indie games releasing since launch and Mario Kart 8 launching in less than a month.

Thanks, Media Create.
