Guerrilla games, best known for their work on the Killzone series managed to do something completely different with Horizon Zero Dawn and almost universally blew the entire Press Start team away. Horizon Zero Dawn managed to capture the imagination of everyone, taking us into a world that we’d never seen before.
Toby said: “Had it not been for Breath of the Wild’s March launch, I would have put a lot more time into Horizon in the early part of the year. That said, after revisiting the world and doing most of what’s on offer, Horizon is an exceptional, breathtaking outing from a studio that used to be all about the glitz and glamour of its futuristic shooters. It’s an incredible achievement in both narrative and gameplay design, and the soundtrack is exceptional. Similarly, Aloy’s story is fascinating throughout, and exploring the desolate world infested with robodino’s was so much fun. Much like the other games on this list, it’s another game you’d be remiss not to have a crack at.”
Camilla said: “Within the first hour of playing this game, I packed up my PS4 and headed into EB Games to buy a Pro, just to see this gorgeous game in all its glory. I love Aloy as a protagonist, I loved seeings the remnants of our own society that decorated the future-nomadic environment a nd I loved the mechanics that made the exciting, occasionally challenging encounters that much more fun.”
Ewan said: “Guerrilla announced themselves as one of the most exciting developers in the industry, with the release of Horizon: Zero Dawn, a bold departure from the Killzone franchise. Launching a new IP is no easy feat, but the quality of Horizon’s world, narrative and characters had me enthralled, and eager for more. It excelled in nearly every aspect of its design, but perhaps most importantly in its moment-to-moment gameplay, which was fast, fluid and rewarding. I can’t wait for Aloy’s next adventure!”
Shannon called the game satisfyingly beautiful in his review and gave it a 9. He said: “Horizon Zero Dawn is an incredible game. Guerrilla has managed to find a perfect balance between creating an extremely challenging and deep Action RPG whilst still managing to make it accessible to almost any gamer. It’s without doubt the most beautiful game on PlayStation 4, set in a world that’s full of life and intrigue. There’s definitely some minor issues with the game, but at the end of the day, Horizon Zero Dawn reminds me why I love games. I was able to get lost in the world for hours on end, fighting bad-ass machines without a care in the world.”

Was fun, but felt a bit too much like a post-apocalyptic Far Cry clone to make GOTY
Amazing game, well deserved.
No overrated ok graphics boring story the open world was ok
Jenna Bailey well there ya go
Well deserved.
Was shit compared to Zelda and mario.
YESSSS GOOD CHOICE!
Great game. Loved it. Zelda still wins in my book due to more innovation, but both really great games for 2017
It was my GOTY, loved it, the story, gameplay, amazing world, great variety of creatures to fight or befriend all made for an incredible and rewarding experience, so much so that I was compelled to platinum it within the first couple weeks
Absolutely, it’s a fabulous game but then it’s a Sony exclusive, as liquid would say : predictable
Completely agree :-)
