All Of The Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022 Announcements

30+ games shown off!

Gamescom Opening Night Live kicked off Gamescom earlier this evening, after a solid enough showing from Summer Game Fest just a couple of months ago, host Geoff Keighley’s two-hour event had a lot to live up to.

Here’s everything that was announced.

Dead Island 2 Is Somehow Still Alive And It’s Set In Los Angeles

It’s a damn shame this all leaked, because Dead Island 2 being alive would have been a good surprise to close out the show with. Oddly, it’s set in Los Angeles which isn’t an island.

The game is launching February 3, 2023. But that wasn’t all, Geoff was joined on stage by one of the game’s writers to show off gameplay for the game and, as someone who didn’t entirely love the first game, I’ve got egg on my face because this looks great!

You were right, Shannon. There you go, it’s out there.

You can read our hands-on preview HERE.

Everywhere Looks Like, Well, Everything

The event opened with a vidoc detailing the current pre-production of Everywhere, a new title from the former president of Rockstar North, and to say the game has really captured its art style is an understatement.

The game looks as though it’s going after the shared space, metaverse concept of Fortnite. The game is set to release in 2023.

Dune: Awakening Is A Survival MMO Game And It Looks Great

Funcom and Level Infinite gave us a look at the new game set in the Dune universe, it’s a survival MMO and at the very least features colossal sandworms to make you question absolutely everything step you take.

Beta sign-ups are currently open.

PlayStation Revealed The DualSense Edge Wireless Controller

It’s been rumoured for a little while, but PlayStation used the platform of Gamescom to reveal their pro controller, the DualSense Edge. It features customizable controls, changeable stick caps, back buttons, and more.

In-depth details about what the controller is doing to change the way you play can be read on the PlayStation blog.

We Got Another Look At The Callisto Protocol Including Its Mutations Mechanic

It’s dark, it’s bleak, and it’s gory as heck. All I’ve learned is that it pays to have a spinning turbine handy to toss baddies into!

The Lords of the Fallen Looks Rather Soulslike

We thought for a hot second it might be Elden Ring content, but it turns out it’s something equally rad. The sequel to Lords of the Fallen has been curtailed into more a reboot treatment.

From the twisted creatures, the dark fantasy setting, and Danzig’s “Mother”, the trailer for The Lords of the Fallen looks extremely oof.

Moving Out 2 Is Set To Let Us Launch Couches Through Windows Next Year

We got a quick glimpse at a sequel to Moving Out from SMG Studio. It’s a homegrown sequel developed in Victoria, and we’re so excited it’s happening.

The game is expected next year-ish and will feature full cross-platform multiplayer goodness.

Hogwarts Legacy Has Put A Spell On Us…

And now, we’re it’s.

After being bumped into February of next year, Hogwarts Legacy showed off a strong trailer at Opening Night Live before going into detail about the game’s editions and pre-order information.

New Tales from the Borderlands Is A Spiritual Successor To The Telltale Series

Developed by Gearbox Quebec, New Tales from the Borderlands is a spiritual successor to the Telltale series, which introduced characters like Rhys and Fiona. The game will feature five episodes launched simultaneously and is its own story with brand new characters.

It releases in the already busy October.

Dying Light 2: Bloody Ties DLC Looks A Lot Like Killing Floor

Surprised that a game that has as much content as it does is getting its first big DLC so quickly. It looks a bit like Killing Floor.

It takes places in Carnage Hall and reeks of glorious gladiatorial combat.

Tortuga Is A Seafaring Game

Tortuga means tortoise if Breaking Bad has taught me anything. Do with that what you will.

Marauders Is A Stylish Dystopian Shooter

Looks cool, the baddies look like Combine soldiers from Half-Life. This looter-shooter has been described as Tarkov in space.

Lightfall Is The Next Major DLC For Destiny 2

Now I’ve been out of the game for a little while, but if they’re adding grapplehooks to Destiny then I might be back. It looks to be a battle between light and dark in a rather vertical, cyberpunk-looking world.

It’s introducing Neptune as a location, will have a whole new campaign, and introduces a new subclass called Strand. It releases on February 28 next year.

Sonic Frontiers Is Bravely Going Head-To-Head With God of War: Ragnarok

The Opening Night Live trailer has given a great idea of the scope they’re looking to achieve with Sonic Frontiers, and it does look pretty great in action.

It’s just a shame that it’s going up against a little-known indie game about a father and son.

Under The Waves Looks Like A Smaller Project From Quantic Dream

The game, which is developed in conjunction with ocean preservationists, looks to be beautiful and heartrending.

The game is being developed by Parallel Studio and is being Quantic Dream, who are currently hard at work themselves working on Star Wars: Eclipse.

Goat Simulator 3

This game looks unhinged. I got whiplash watching this.

It’s coming out on November 17 so it, too, is kind of going up against God of War. I think we know who’ll win that battle, it’s hard to go past the Goat of War.

Return To Monkey Island Is Launching On International Talk Like A Pirate Day

I can’t fathom people saying this game looks bad, who knew opinions could be wrong? It’s releasing next month for PC and Nintendo Switch on September 19.

Moonbreaker Is A New Game From The Subnautica Team

It’s a digital miniatures game, which is certainly an interesting concept. The game is coming to Steam Playtest in September.

Friends Vs. Friends Is A Cool Cel-Shaded Shooter Coming To PC And Consoles

It’s a card-based shooter, it has gorgeous cel-shaded aesthetics, what’s not to like?

Lies Of P, The Soulslike Set In The World Of Pinocchio, Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass

This has been on our radar for a little while, and I’m a sucker for sickly adaptations of things that children often hold dear. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, anyone?

It’s set for release next year, and it’s a cool get for Xbox Game Pass, too.

Stranded: Alien Dawn Is Kind Of Like Wasteland In Space

It seemed like an odd choice to debut a trailer about a space mission gone wrong after pumping up the European Space Agency, but Stranded: Alien Dawn went there.

The game is described as a survival sim, and looks part tower defense, part The Sims in space. It does look rad.

Atlas Fallen Has Quite A Bit Of Sand Surfing

You could have told me this was Forspoken and it might have believed you.

This game promises monster hunts of an enormous scale and comes from the studio who brought us The Surge.

We’re Getting Homeworld 3 In The First Half Of Next Year

I can’t republish the unsavoury things Ewan might have said about this, but it’s definitely the spaceship RTS threequel on everybody’s lips.

We Got A Better Look At Honkai: Star Rail

The game, developed by Hoyoverse, definitely looks pretty and it has space trains, so it has my attention.

High On Life Has A Very Aggressive Aussie Multi-Tool And We F#&king Love It

Look, it might just be Justin Roiland doing his best Aussie ocker accent, but I’d die for that foul-mouthed multi-tool that, at the very least, doubles as a whip and a knife.

The game recently got bumped from October into December, but we’re still keen!

We Got A First Look At Gameplay For The Expanse: A Telltale Series

It looks like it’s going to tick all of the boxes we’re used to with Telltale games of old, from great character moments and tough decision-making, but The Expanse includes a lot of cool zero-gravity movement which looks great.

The game, which is being developed alongside Deck Nine, is set for release in 2023.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space Is A New Multiplayer Game Like Friday The 13th

This asynchronous multiplayer horror title is coming from the executive producer behind Friday the 13th, which our overlord Shannon is a big fan of.

We can’t say we expected to see this one!

Scars Above Is Yet Another Mysterious Sci-Fi Game About An Alien Invasion

I love the imagery in this game, definitely eager to see where they take this one. It looks like a Returnal with a bit more exploration and contemplation, it’s “coming soon”.

Wyrdsong Is A New RPG With An Impressive Pedigree

Although details on the game were sparse, when the team has worked on some of the biggest role-playing game heavy-hitters including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and The Outer Worlds, you tend to take notice.

Age Of Empires IV Is Getting A Bit More Content Soon

We’re getting the Ottomans and Malians update in October, so that’s cool for real-time fans.

A New Gotham Knights Trailer Has Shown Off Its Rogue Gallery

The new footage has confirmed several villains including Harley Quinn and Clayface. The game’s release date has also now been brought forward four days to October 21.

Where Winds Meet Looks Like A Very Rad IP

In terms of setting and tone, this is a hit already. There aren’t enough games set in medieval China.

Hideo Kojima’s New Podcast Is Coming To Spotify Next Month

A bit of brand synergy between Kojima, Geoff, and their industry pals. It’s called Brain Structure, we guess?

A preview can be found here if you’re keen.

Park Beyond Has Introduced Modular Building In A New Trailer

Not going to lie, this looks like a lot of fun.

We Got To See Warhammer 40K: Darktide Once Again

The game isn’t far away now, so it makes sense they’re showing us a little bit more in terms of the setting and characters. As previously announced, it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch in November.

Blacktail Looks Like A Witchy Good Time

The game looks to be about a mythical, shapeshifting forest where you’ll be able to, presumably as twin sisters, master both your bow and witchcraft.

Phantom Hellcat Also Has Women In Masks!

Look, I glanced down to write and this game also has masks, so I thought it was still Blacktail. I’m down for all these women kicking ass while wearing masks, though. It’s a brave new world.

CrossfireX Is Getting A Bit Of New Content

CrossfireX is getting a new content update called Babylon, which we’re assuming isn’t brand synergy between it and fellow hit game Babylon’s Fall.

Dorfromantik Is A Cute Townscaping Game

It’s absolutely adorable and it’s coming to Nintendo Switch at the end of September.

The Outlast Trials Looks Like A Horrifyingly Good Time For Friends

We’ve finally seen something on the long-awaited multiplayer game set in the world of Outlast, and it looks tremendously grisly and horrifying. This is one game Ewan can’t be blamed for having to play with friends.

A closed beta for The Outlast Trials is running from October 28 to November 1, it can be wishlisted on Steam.

The Finals Is A Rather Flashy First-Person Shooter

It’s coming from former Battlefield developers with a playtest happening soon.
