Nintendo today revealed some exciting information about Mario Kart 8. While racing upside down or on walls, players can bump into other racers or certain course obstacles to get a speed boost. Metal Mario, Lakitu and Shy Guy will be returning.
Brand new items were also announced. The Piranha Plant attaches to the front of the players’ kart and chomps away at other characters. The second new item is the Boomerang Flower. Racers can throw the boomerang at opponents to stun them. You can also arc he boomerang at multiple players cart to land a multi hit.
Remixed courses will also make a return with favourites such as Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart Wii, Toad’s Turnpike from Mario Kart 64 and Donut Plains from Super Mario Kart. They layouts and graphics have been completely reimagined for HD. The game will once again feature 16 new courses and 16 remixed courses.
The game will also feature live recorded music for the first time. Nintendo has confirmed that players can play using the Wii U GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Wheel and Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Obviously the game can also be played using off TV mode using the Wii U GamePad.
Mario Kart 8 will launch on May 31st. You can also get your hands on the Limited Edition bundle which is exclusive to EB Games in Australia.
