Australian Government Abolishes Funding For Game Development

As the game development scene grew bigger and broader, the Australian Government decided to help boost Australian interactive media by injecting a much needed $20 million fund via Screen Australia to help promote the growth of game development in Australia. This was instigated last year.

As of this coming July, this fund will be abolished, with the remainder of the money being used to ‘repair the Budget and fund policy priorities’, in the recently announced 2014 Budget. You can skim through the full documents here.

A sad end to the fund, with what essentially is the end of Australian game development. The recent budget announcement has also seen a huge backlash, as student debts start to rise and pensioners and sick people on the Disability Support Pension face tougher penalties.
