E3 2014: Nintendo Pull The Curtain On Their NFC Line ‘Amiibo’

Nintendo took to their special presentation to reveal Amiibo, their custom-made line of NFC figures. They revealed that it will first be compatible with the NFC reader on the Wii U GamePad. So far it’ll be compatible with Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Yoshi’s Woolly World.

In Super Smash Bros, you can use your Amiibo’s to level up. As with Skylanders, you can take your figure to a friend’s house and show them just how powerful your character is.

Nintendo also announced that an NFC reader/writer would be released for the 3DS in 2015.
