Techradar have reported that a source extremely close to Rockstar Games have confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development. Earlier this year, GTA publisher Take-Two interactive confirmed that they will be at E3 “in a big way”.
Further to this, the source confirmed that Rockstar made the trip to Japan in order to scout the landscape as a potential setting for GTA 6. This is backed up with the fact that Rockstar had previously made a trademark claim for GTA: Tokyo. The source went on to claim that whilst Rockstar were heavily in favour of GTA: Tokyo, there were far too many problems for this idea to come to fruition.
“The road system was seen to be problematic and became one reason the idea was canned…Our source added that, as time has gone on, Rockstar has realized the difficulty in moving Grand Theft Auto outside of the USA, where it has firmly embedded itself. There are a number of series staples, from brands to cars, that Rockstar would likely have to change if a future GTA was set somewhere else.”
