Twitch has today revealed that it is adding a very new animated way to support your favourite streamers. Today, the beta of a new feature called ‘Cheering’ which allows you to purchase animated chat emotes with real money. Broadcasters will also earn a share of revenue. It isn’t yet clear exactly how much the broadcaster will get.
All you have to do is type the words “cheer” along with a number in chat during a stream and it will cause an animated, colourful emote to play alongside your message. The higher the number, the larger the emote.
Twitch also announced a new form of currency called “bits”, which are also available today. The feature will be available instantly for some broadcasters. It’ll eventually be rolled out on a larger scale once community feedback has been received.
