Whilst speaking to the Creative Executive of Lucasfilm, Steve Blank and Game Director at Motive Studios, Mark Thompson, we couldn’t help but ask if Jar Jar Binks will be present at all in Star Wars: Battlefront II.
Obviously, we got the standard PR response from Lucasfilm’s Steve Blank about them not being able to go into detail about any characters outside of the already revealed Kylo Ren, Rey and Luke Skywalker.
Motive Studios, Mark Thompson, who was responsible for heading the single-player component of the game had the below to say:
“It’s really awesome to see how fans responded to prequel characters being included in Battlefront II. Hearing the fans at Celebration once we saw Darth Maul was absolutely unbelievable”.
He continued to say that “If we didn’t put Darth Maul in the trailer. I think that definitely would have been question one, but we did, so question two seems to be about the whereabouts of Jar Jar Binks”.
Lucasfilm’s Steve Blank spoke a little bit more about the importance of the prequel trilogy and just how much those movies mean to a certain group of Star Wars fans.
“It speaks to a great set of fans that get a bad rap or don’t get thought about at all and there are those fans out there. The prequels for a lot of people are the movies that people grew up with and people freakin’ love Darth Maul. Getting that kind of representation is important and something that people love”
So, the verdict is still out there. It’s honestly quite possible that we’ll see Jar Jar Binks at some point in Battlefront II. Maybe as a DLC character later down the track? He could have some pretty awesome abilities.
Star Wars: Battlefront II will release on November 17th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
