The NBN Chief Has Blamed Gamers For Bad Fixed Wireless Congestion

Here’s a new one. Apparently, gamers are to blame for poor speeds with NBN’s Fixed Wireless service.

NBN Co is looking at slowing down speeds or limiting downloads during peak times in order to overcome fixed wireless congestion problems, that the NBN Co Chief thinks is caused by gamers. At a parliamentary hearing in Sydney yesterday, he said that heavy users that are likely to be targeted by this fair use policy were “gamers predominantly”.

“While people are gaming it is a high bandwidth requirement that is a steady streaming process” said Mr Morrow, the NBN Co Chief.

It’s an interesting one for sure. Whilst gaming does use a lot of bandwith, playing online uses way less than streaming a HD or 4K movie on Netflix.

Thanks, ABC.
