IGEA just released the Australian sales data for the first half of 2016 and upon examining it, one thing becomes immediately clear. In the first 26 weeks of the year, there wasn’t a single top selling Nintendo exclusive. Now sure, there aren’t too many from PlayStation or Microsoft either, but upon breaking it down, the only two games listed that were even on Nintendo consoles are the two LEGO games which released in week 4 and week 26 respectively.
I think you’d struggle to find 26 weeks in a year in which this was the case, with Nintendo having so many hard hitters that usually resonate extremely well with an Australian audience.
With Nintendo not releasing the Nintendo NX in 2016, and pretty much giving up on the Wii U, it would appear possible that they may not have a best-selling game in any given week for the rest the year. The only hope would appear to be Pokemon Moon and Sun, depending on what other titles release in that busy Q4 period of the year.
