The Nintendo Switch will be receiving an older version of the popular game Payday 2, according to its publishers, Starbreeze, who confirmed the controversial news in a statement to Polygon. In the statement, Starbreeze revealed the version of the game soon to be released on the Switch will be nearly a year old, and lagging behind updates the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions – which themselves are lagging behind the PC version – have since received.
The confirmation was sought after the Payday 2 reddit was sent into a frenzy after a player – whom had early access to the game – streamed it, revealing clues the version was older than what was currently available on other platforms.
Starbreeze explained the situation, stating, “the reasoning for the Switch content: we’re making continuous updates to a game that’s turning 5 years old this year, and to get the game out in early 2018 on Switch meant that our team had to go with the content ported and available at the time of console submission.” The Switch version is however to receive “future content updates.”
They additionally released the video below, addressing fan’s concerns:
Payday 2 is set to be releases on the Switch tomorrow, on the 23rd February 2018.
