The OG Donkey Kong Erasure Continues As The Nintendo Switch Gets Updated Icons

Poor DK

With the big Nintendo Switch 20.0.0 update that sets up the console for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo changed out a bunch of the icons for its most popular characters.

Almost all of the main icons got an update with Mario and Luigi seemingly looking more happier, Yoshi and Peach becoming more vibrant and the faces of several Pikmin changing, but the one that will have most people talking (and some getting upset) is the changing of Donkey Kong.

[Nintendo Switch Firmware Update]Some default profile icons were changed in 20.0.0. Here's a handy chart to compare the differences.(I hope that image compression doesn't make it hard to compare… If it does, I'll post a link to the raw image in the replies.)

Whilst it isn’t really to be expected, Nintendo changed the icon of Donkey Kong to be his new one that was featured in the Super Mario Movie and is also present in Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.

The retro flat Donkey Kong also saw a change, showing more teeth which is way more subtle, but still changes his expression quite noticeably.

For those that had Donkey Kong set as their DP, the new one has appeared for them, with obviously no way to get the old one back.
