The folks at Hello Games have revealed that those who got No Man’s Sky early will have their progress wiped before launch. Many players were able to acquire early copies of the game, most through vendors who broke the street date. These players were already able to venture into the universe and name discovered planets.
Player progress will not be cleared, just the online discovery storage. This is to give everyone a fair go and allow everyone to start their planet discovering adventure at the same time.

Interestingly enough, Sony have stated that local storage will also be deleted in a statement sent to TechBuffalo’s Joey Davidson.
