One of the weirdest parts about this morning’s PS5 stream is despite the fact that 4K and 60FPS are both major selling points of next-gen, the PS5 stream was actually running in 1080p/30FPS.
The reason behind this isn’t clear, although Sony say it was to deal with “challenges of having studios working from home around the world”. Now that I’ve finally had a bit of time, I sat down to watch most of the trailers in full 4K on YouTube and the difference is night and day. As great as all the games looked, the 1080p stream obviously made everything look a little muddier and not as shiny.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart looks like a Pixar movie, Horizon Forbidden West looks noticeable better than the original game, Resident Evil Village & Demon’s Souls look even darker and grittier and Spider-Man Miles Morales looks damn stunning.
