Despite its reveal trailer being rendered using Unreal Engine 4, Kingdom Hearts IV is set to move its development over to Unreal Engine 5.
As reported by VGC (who are translating Famitsu’s work in covering the recent anniversary event for Kingdom Hearts), “the full game will be made with Unreal Engine 5, and the quality of lighting and detail will be several levels higher.”
Considering the reveal trailer was already staggeringly pretty, this is sure to be exciting for fans of the series.
Kingdom Hearts IV is another in an evergrowing list of games moving to Unreal Engine 5 for their development. Both of the recently announced Tomb Raider and The Witcher instalments are confirmed to be using the engine, plus The Coalition is using the same tools for their next title which is likely to be Gears 6, and recently released a pretty stunning tech demo.
We’ll have more news about Kingdom Hearts IV, including its release window and platforms, as it comes.
