Sony Has Certified An Updated PS5 Model In Japan

A new CFI-1200 model designation has appeared with updated components

It looks as though Sony has registered and been approved for a new model designation for the PlayStation 5 in Japan, with the company being granted design certification for a new ‘CFI-1200’ SKU.

The supplied documentation implies that this new version sports “updated radio equipment”, which could mean many things but likely indicates that this is another minor componentry upgrade not unlike the one we saw last year that could hopefully be another step in Sony’s battle to actually manufacture and supply PS5 consoles to meet demand.

Last year, DigiTimes reported that Sony was gearing up to release a redesigned PS5 that would feature a new 6nm CPU from AMD, but it’s unclear at this stage if this new filing is related.
