After the existence of the game was leaked and subsequently officially announced over the weekend, PlayStation Australia has now confirmed the local upgrade pricing for The Last of Us Part 2 owners looking to upgrade to the new The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launching on January 19th next year.
The upgrade will be available for those who own the game digitally or physically, though physical owners will need to have the original game disc in to be able to play the upgraded version, and it’ll cost $20 AUD – a slight bump up from some previous PlayStation first party upgrades.
Feel more with PS5. Beyond the everyday. Beyond extraordinary. Even beyond imagination. Feel it now.
As a reminder, this new version of the game will feature enhanced visuals over the PS4 version including native 4K output in the Fidelity mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K in Performance mode and an unlocked framerate option for those playing on VRR-ready displays. There’s also increased texture quality, level-of-detail improvements, better shadows, animations and more along with improved loading times and DualSense features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
The game will also include brand-new modes and content including No Return, a “roguelike survival mode” that will put players in a series of randomised combat encounters with some characters fully playable for the first time and plenty of unlockables along with leaderboards – it essentially sounds a bit like Resident Evil’s Mercenaries mode with a roguelike spin.
There’s also a new Guitar Free Play mode where players can strum along with a bunch of different instruments and play with different effects as a range of characters in selectable environments for the ultimate mood-setting. Lost Levels will offer up new playable sequences originally cut from the game, along with develop commentary that will also feature optionally in the main game’s cutscenes.
All in all it sounds like a pretty comprehensive package. Here’s that first trailer again, this time from the official PlayStation channel:
