PlayStation and Firewalk Studios’ 5v5 sci-fi hero shooter, Concord, has almost arrived, landing next week on August 23rd, and in the lead-up to release the studio has revealed a final chunk of information around the game’s launch as well as its plans for post-launch support.
Split up into two key dates, coming in earlier on August 20th for those who pick up the Digital Deluxe Edition, pre-load for Concord has begun now for all players on PS5. The base game will feature a total of six modes across 12 maps, with 16 playable Freegunner characters.
Following a pre-season period, the game’s first full season is set to kick off in October, dubbed Concord Season 1: The Tempest. It’ll include a brand-new playable Freegunner, a new map, new Freegunner Variants, quality-of-life updates, rewards, and of course a new run of the weekly “Cinematic Vignettes” that the studio has been promising since the game was first revealed.
The first season will also add an in-game store with paid cosmetics, though Firewalk stresses that it’ll complement a healthy range of rewards earned through progression and won’t feature any gameplay-affecting gear.
The second season is yet to be named, but is due to arrive in January and will include much of the same types of new content along with the first new post-launch mode.
You can read up on Concord’s future content as well as its philosophies on player progression in the lengthy PlayStation Blog post right here. Ewan had a fair amount of praise for Concord following the game’s beta, writing, “The game feels much more approachable for those that have dabbled in hero shooters but grew intimidated by the complexity of the meta. The core mechanics of hero shooters are still present, but cycling through characters makes for a changed pace I think most would enjoy. It’s well-rounded, nicely polished, with a generous assortment of unique but balanced characters.”
Concord launches on August 23rd for PS5 and PC. It’s available for pre-order now at a discounted price of just $49 on Amazon.
