Probably the most notable thing in Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard (outside of Call of Duty) was the fact that Microsoft would now own the original PlayStation icon in Crash Bandicoot.
Obviously, this had people wondering whether Crash would continue to feature on PlayStation in future releases, which is still up in the year, but at least for the meantime, we know that the company has allowed him to appear in the upcoming Astro Bot.
As he did in Astro’s Playroom, Crash will once again appear in Astro Bot, in mask form alongside other cartoon characters such as the apes from Ape Escape.
“Sometimes LED eyes just didn’t work on certain characters because the original design relies so much on the pupils being a certain size or color for instance,” said Team Asobi’s studio director Nicolas Doucet in an interview with PlayStation Blog.
“So for more cartoony VIPs like Crash Bandicoot or from Ape Escape, the Bots are wearing a mask to help bridge that problem.”
We got to play Astro Bot and came away impressed saying: “The thing I loved about Astro’s Playroom was that sense of mystery and not knowing what was coming next, and that’s exactly how I felt during my hands-on session and walking away from it.”
It’s coming out on September 6th and it’s available for $89 from Amazon HERE.
