Apple held an event this morning and announced a slew of new products. The largest being the new iMac, which has seen a complete redesign for the first time in years, the forever rumoured AirTags, a new Apple TV and a brand new iPad Pro.
THE NEW 24″ IMAC
the new 24″ iMac comes in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver. It has a 4.5kK Retina display and is just 11.5 mm thin. The internals have Apple’s new M1 chip which quite frankly, blows everything else out of the water at this point. It’s available with two Thunderbolt ports as well as two USB 3 ports and the Ethernet port is cleverly tucked away in the power brick.
Just like Macbooks of old, it has a magnet power adaptor, so you can easily plug it in and out. As far as the webcam goes, it finally has a 1080p Facetime camera, which is a big improvement on we’ve had previously. There’s also a studio quality mic as well as six speakers build into the computer.
The iMac comes with a Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard which will match the iMac that you choose, colour-wise. The Magic Keyboard also has Touch ID for the first time.
The new 24″ iMac will be available to pre-order on April 30th and be available in the second half of May. It starts at $1,899 AUD for the base model and $2,199 for the fancy model with the extra two ports, ethernet and Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.
THE NEW IPAD PRO
The new iPad Pro 12.9″ iPad Pro has a Mini LED display (no Mini LED for 12″ model) that boasts 1,000 nits of brightness (1,600 nits in HDR) as well as an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a new M1 chip which results in 50% faster performance
The iPad Pro now has 5G as well as a Thunderbolt port that will let you use it with a wide range of accessories. As far as cameras go, there’s two Pro cameras, a LiDAR scanner as well as a new Ultra Wide front camera that has a new feature called Centre Stage which practically will follow you around the room. The Magic Keyboard will now come in white, but hasn’t changed.
The iPad Pro will be available for pre-order on April 30th and be available in the second half of May. It will start at $1,199 for the 11″ and $1,649 for the 12″. With the new models, you can go all the way up to 2TB. Once you get past 1GB, the ram will be doubled to 16GB.
AIRTAGS ARE FINALLY HERE
They’ve been rumoured for well over a year, but Apple has finally announced AirTag. It will allow you to stick a little tracker (that has a battery that lasts roughly a year). The AirTag will not only let you track objects that have been lost outside of your house, but will take you precisely to items in your house using Precision Finding. There’s also a speaker inside to let you find it quickly.
The AirTag will be available to order online on April 23rd. A 1 pack will set you back $45 whilst a 4-pack will set you back $149. There’s also a range of accessories such as leather holders that you can use to house the AirTag.
A NEW 4K APPLE TV
Apple has also announced a new Apple TV that is capable of 4K/120Hz using its new HDMI 2.1 port. The big story is that it has a brand new Siri Remote, which seems like it’s a lot better than the previous one. It now has actual buttons to navigate with as well as a scroll wheel to scrub through TV/movies.
There’s also a new power button on the remote as well a mute button so that you can turn on your TV using the remote.
Another big feature is a new colour calibrator. This uses your iPhone to take a photo of the screen and balance the colour of your Apple TV (outside of your TV settings). This will also come to other Apple TV units as well.
The new Apple TV will be available to order on April 30th and be available in the second half of May. It will set you back $249 for the 32GB version and $279 for the 64GB version. The new Siri Remote is also available separately for $79.
