Xbox creator, Seamus Blackley has shared an interesting series of concept images for Microsoft’s original Xbox. These images date back to November 1999, which was four months before the console was originally revealed. Whilst the designs all differ slightly, they all include an embedded screen which is interesting considering we have never seen thison an Xbox device. The second image shows a portable unit which is is embedded into the controller.
Even more interesting is the button layout. None of the designs match what ended up featuring the famous twin dual analogue stick that the Xbox is known for.
It’s really cool to get an insight into one of the most successful gaming stories of all time. It’s clear that the Xbox could have been something completely different, but we’re glad that Microsoft went with something more traditional. The Xbox controllers have been some of the best in gaming history.
