PlayStation Is Removing The Twitter/X Share Feature Next Week

X gon' take it from you.

PlayStation users will soon no longer be able to share screenshots or videos directly from their consoles to X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) with PlayStation announcing that it’ll no longer support the feature as of next week on November 13th.

The company wrote in a notice on its official website:

“As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so). For details on how to share game captures from PS5, click here, and for PS4, click here.”

Users are also seeing a pop-up when they boot up their PlayStation consoles which shares the same message.

Of course, when it comes to sharing screenshots and captures from your PlayStation console, things have improved greatly since the glory days of Twitter. PS5 owners have the benefit of the PlayStation app which can be set up to automatically gather the last 14 days of captures or allow users to manually upload anything they want to capture straight to the app, ready to download, post, email, print out at your local Big W, etc.

While a reason for the change hasn’t been given in an official capacity, it’s most likely due to the changes to X’s API, which underwent a number of changes including moving to a paid model. Other major tech companies have also disabled X integrations in the past, including Microsoft with Xbox’s own capture sharing tools.
