Nintendo has just premiered one of the biggest Nintendo Directs in the history of the company, with the first part of it revolving around how Nintendo intends to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game.
Of course, with a mammoth showcase lasting nearly an hour, that’s the least of what we’re expecting. Of course, we’re expecting dates for a couple of key releases yet to come this year, and we’re hoping for Nintendo to paint a picture for how their third-party partners will support the new console into 2026.
Here’s a rundown of everything that was announced at the September 2025 Nintendo Direct.
The Nintendo Direct closed with a look at a new Fire Emblem title, the first game in the series since Fire Emblem: Engage a couple of years ago. Aside from clear gladiator vibes, the debut trailer showed a lot of Cai, the game’s seeming protagonist. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches in 2026.
In a novel approach to the Pokémon IP, this Ditto-led sim game lets you befriend the cutesy pocket monsters and build up a community for them to live in by learning key skills from them, such as the ability to create grass from Bulbasaur.
Looks mega cool, no?
It features Raichu, and it revolves around the discovery of Mega-Evolved Pokémon in Lumiose City. Hopefully we learn more about it as the base game’s release nears.
Although it seems as though it’ll come with a few compromises, the fact that I’ll be able to shit myself in broad daylight on a bus is encouraging. The Switch 2 version of the game is landing day and date with other versions on February 27, 2026.
The hot new trailer showed off Samus engaging in combat and navigating a small open-world section on a rad-looking bike. The game also finally got dated for December 4, 2025.
Even if it is paid, we’re rapt that there’s more content so soon after Donkey Kong Bananza’s recent launch, as though we need any excuse to keep smashing. Emerald Rush, which is out today, takes a bit of a roguelike approach and revolves around collecting emeralds across various layers.
The next entry in the Yoshi line of video games was revealed to cap off the Mario 40th portion of the Nintendo Direct. It’s coming next year.
As with most of the Nintendo Switch 2 iterations that we’ve seen so far, Super Mario Wonder’s is set to feature a new mode. It’s called Meetup in Bellabel Park, which is likely to have a multiplayer mini-game flavour to it. The re-release will include all of the standard bells and whistles when it launches in 2026.
Along with great-looking Amiibos of Mario and Rosalina, it was announced that physical collections for Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 Remastered would be making their way to both consoles next month.
It looks like the Mario Tennis experience we’ve all come to love, especially if you’re reigning PAX Aus champions like Shannon and me. Of course, there are new features like Fever Rackets, which have their own power-ups, such as freezing the court.
It was announced that the next Super Mario film, being developed for release in partnership with Illumination, would be called Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie. Aside from its title and the fact that a big chunk of the cast, including Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy, would be returning, there wasn’t much else said here.
The games include Two Point Museum, EA Sports FC 26, LEGO Voyagers, and Persona 3: Reload, among others.
Virtual Boy games are coming to Nintendo Online classics next year; however, they’ll require the most bizarre peripheral I’ve ever seen. It’s only available in the US and Canada, it seems; however, there’s a cardboard Labo-like version that might get a wider release.
The new trailer showed off the co-op features for the game, including two-player co-op and GameShare. There are also cool, synergistic attacks called Sync Attacks. The game is also set to launch on November 6.
I’ll be banned from buses, at this rate. It’s set for release in 2026.
If perfectly spherical fruit is your bag, you’re likely going to be into this one.
It looks like another saucy Monster Hunter game for the Monster Hunter sickos out there. It’s launching March 13, 2026.
The games included One Piece, Overcooked 2, Human Fall Flat, PowerWash Simulator 2, and Stardew Valley, with a few of them receiving welcome mouse functionality.
The reimagined classic role-playing game is set for release in February next year.
Launching on both Nintendo Switch consoles next year, this version of the classic investigation game introduces new story content.
To tie in with Kirby Air Riders, there are a couple of new Amiibo on the way. They’re set for launch on November 20, along with the game. However, we won’t have to wait until then to see it again, as another Direct, featuring Sakurai, was teased.
“Paid DLC” might be the phrase of the day, it seems.
The game, which launches today complete with solo and co-op play using GameShare, is a rogue-life RPG where the aim is to rebuild the world, one robot at a time, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Although the game is obviously available in early access elsewhere, its console release on Switch 2 has, at last, been dated for September 25, 2025.
The journey to get the iconic Midgar trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2 starts with this first step. It’s set for release on January 22, 2026.
The game finally got a digital release date for October 30. This should please our James.
Move over, Death Stranding 2, the real Aussie simulator is here. The game is coming out on November 5; however, you can pre-order and try the demo from today.
Coming this holiday to Nintendo Switch
It’s no Habbo Hotel, but people who want to live vicariously through their Mii should be pleased. It’s coming next year.
It’s geared at couch co-op and it looks rad, dude.
