UPDATE: The reason why Outlast 2 was refused classification in Australia is HERE.
We’ve been informed that Outlast 2, the sequel to Outlast by Red Barrels has been refused classification in Australia. The Australian publisher, 18point2 applied for the classification, but it was refused on March 15th (yesterday).
It’s noted that it was refused classification because it breaks the following classification guideline:
“depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.”
The original game had issues getting classification in Australia too, and had to be modified before it was able to be released.
Outlast 2 was scheduled to release on April 25th. We’ve reached out to the Australian distributor to see what their plan of action is going forward.

"In a way that they OFFEND against the standards of blah blah blah" Wasn't it our very own attorney general, the highest legal officer in the country, who said "People have the right to say things that other people would find insulting, offensive or bigoted?" Was it not a recently deceased hero cartoonist of the conservative right wing, who said of "snowflakes" who "get offended" should "suck it up?"
I'm just curious why these particular breed of free speech advocates are suddenly changing the narative and trying to tell myself or anyone else that we need to care that they find something offensive. Where's Andrew Bolt's teary, impassioned foam flecked rant about this game's freedom to offend, or my freedom to be offended by it? How many of the people on the board are christians, and is there perhaps some deeply offensive, immoral, indecent and improper scandal closer to home they'd rather we didn't talk about that causes them to point fingers elsewhere? Let's ask the altar boys...
