Riftbound: Vendetta is the fourth set in Riot Games’ League of Legends Trading Card Game, and is now available for all TCG and Riftbound fanatics to get their hands on. Thanks to the Riftbound team and Riot Games we got our hands on some Riftbound: Vendetta goodies to see what’s new to the lineup and what makes Vendetta worth fighting for.

As always, there is a well of products Riftbounders are able to grab to get their dopamine hits – playmats, sleeves, booster boxes, pre-constructed decks and vaults all make a return. A lot of the line up will be familiar to those already sinking their teeth into the game, but their are a couple of new variations of these items that have had a rework. In particular the Champion decks.

In the past the pre-constructed Champion Decks have been available as individual items players can grab – great for those only wanting to grab a certain deck, but also not so great when particular decks have sold out faster than others. This time around we see the Champion Decks bundle into the now Showdown Deck ($69.99 AUD). This bundle includes two champion decks, perfectly balanced to go head to head straight away – meaning players can jump right into the Riftbound action with a friend. These Showdown Decks include a Shen Champion Deck, a Zed Champion Deck, two Booster Packs, two illustrated paper Playmats, two cardboard deck boxes and an Instruction Booklet. This theming of rivalries continue throughout the product line up, with card sleeves ($29.99 AUD) and playmats ($49.95 AUD) also getting the clashing duo treatment with sleeve designs showcasing such battles as Diana Vs Leona, Jayce Vs Viktor and Jin Vs Vi; not to mention the playmats also sporting the same designs – we got to check out the Kayle Vs Morgana playmat at it doesn’t disappoint!

Making its way back to the battlefield this time around is Unleashed’s new product, the Vault. Vaults were a great way for Riftbounders to get a slew of products last set, and it hasn’t change this time around with Vendetta. In a Vault ($64.99 AUD), you get six booster packs, three full art, foil promos, a stack of 36 Runes and a couple of card dividers (not to forget the box itself for card storage). Everything players will need to create decks, play the game and store their cards. It’s quite a lot of value in one deckbox-sized bundle, and from our unboxing experiences, it definitely seems to be a key product for players to grab.

Riftbound: Vendetta focuses in on Rivalries. Where conflicts new and old shape the way in which players take on the battlefields and become the ultimate victor amongst many legends and many intertwining clashes. In order to do so, new mechanics have been introduced to the game – which also play into the theme of duelling contrasts:

  • Flow – Flow lets you play cards from your trash instead of from your hand. It was inspired by League Champs who use Energy, and captures the faster recovery and reuse of abilities that they display.
  • Burn – Burn sends cards from a Main Deck to the Trash. Some cards burn your own deck to fuel synergies, while others attack your opponent’s deck directly.
  • Empower – Cards with Empower on them have the potential to gain new abilities once they’re in play, often after paying a cost. This allows you to get a card on the board one turn, then amplify its might or effect on another turn.

New card types also enter the realm with Unit Gear (A new unit type that acts as both a Unit and Gear), and Decrees (While not a new type of spell, decrees are a cycle of spells that are designed with Domain rivalries in mind. Each Domain has a decree that strikes hard against cards of its opposite domain colour). There’s also new tokens like Tentacle (helps Bilgewater decks build pressure on the board), Shadow Clone (when attacks you banish a unit from trash, if done give Assault 4 for turn), and Empowered (a marker token used to track cards that have been upgraded through Empower).

In terms of what Collectors should look to chase this set, the Crystal Rose Alt Arts may just be the way to go. These cards celebrate Wild Rift’s returning skinline by bringing those fan-favourite looks into Riftbound. The Crystal Rose Alt Arts will appear as often as other Alt Art cards in Vendetta booster packs. They will have a special (literally marked as ‘SP’) numbering. In addition, there are 22 champion overnumbers representing the legendary rivalries from the League universe. These pieces are diptychs, allowing you to collect and show off your favourite pairings of friends, family, rivals, and enemies (or all of the above).

Riftbound: Vendetta is available now. Be sure to visit your LGS  for all information on Learn To Plays and when their Nexus Nights are held to join in the fun of the Riftbound TCG every single week.
