South Park On Switch Has A Serious Bug That Will Delete Your Save

South Park: The Fractured But Whole was just released on Nintendo Switch this week, but users are starting to report a game-breaking bug that occurs late in the game and will literally delete your save.

The bug happens when you collect a certain numbers of cats (one specifically for Big Al) within the game. Users are reporting that their characters then completely turn into a character with a crown, before the game kills you in the very next area. Your original game save is then deleted and you’ll be presented with a game save titled ‘Hero on Patrol’ quest.

As far as I can tell, there’s no way to avoid this from happening at this certain moment (it is optional to get the cats) and there’s no way of getting your save back, especially due to the fact that the Switch doesn’t have cloud saves. Our writer Toby has been able to avoid it by creating a second save, but can confirm that his original save was completely wiped back to this mission at this specific moment.

As you can see below, his original save says he has only played two seconds, whilst his backup save shows the 12 hours that he has played.

  • It doesn't seem to be related to cats especially, according to many feedbacks, it just randomly strikes while collecting an item or accomplishing an action, whatever it is. I've collected all the cats and didn't meet that bug. I met the other one though (the mission at D Mobile with the endless loading screen), so I just can't continue playing for now, because I can't get any further in the main quest, and I don't want to finish all remaining optional quests only to get my progression suddenly erased while searching a random drawer.
