Do you remember when Pokemon first launched? If you do, it’s probably time to visit the doctor and get a blood test, because that was apparently 30 years ago. Time is an unforgiving master.

Not only does this announcement mark Pokemon’s 30th anniversary, it also marks a milestone for the Pokemon Trading Card Game – as mentioned in the press release; “This expansion will be the first to have a simultaneous global release, allowing fans across the world to enjoy collecting new cards at the same time.”

Another feature for the 30th Anniversary set is that “every” card will be a foil card – an entire pack of shiny cards – bound to catch the eye of collectors and fans alike, even down to the energy card included in the pack.

Of course it wouldn’t be an anniversary set without a reprint of some of the most iconic cards in the series, so we’ll also see a return of the highly sought after Base Set Charizard amongst others. Maybe it’ll finally be my turn to get one!

Not one to shy away from fan service, there will also be “thirty” – that’s right, THIRTY – separate Pikachu artworks, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary and Pokemon’s beloved and iconic mascot. Will you catch them all?

The 30th Anniversary set is guaranteed to be hot, and launches simultaneously across the globe on September 16, 2026. You can check out the trailer below.
