Capcom has joined forces with GOG, a digital PC storefront that specialises in DRM-free games and revivals of lost classics, to bring the original Resident Evil trilogy back onto PC.
The games were first released for PS1 across the 90s and early 00s, with PC ports arriving shortly after each one, and although the PlayStation versions have been re-released and remade in various forms, the PC versions remained incompatible with modern hardware before now, which makes this a pretty neat endeavour.
They’re not just straight re-releases either, with a number of enhancements made like improved game and video rendering, full support for modern controllers, and in the case of the original game the complete, uncut PC experience that features scenes not included in the PS1’s global release.
The three games are available for $14.95 each or as a bundle for $36.50, with the first game already available to download and play, while Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will arrive before the end of the year. As with GOG’s other games, these will be DRM-free meaning there’s no activation or online connection necessary to play.
