After its reveal over four years ago, the promise of Star Wars Eclipse and its branching narrative set within the High Republic era of the Star Wars canon has amounted to little more than small, insubstantial updates.

According to a recent report from Insider Gaming, the game might not see release for a long time yet, which could drag its development time out into the six-to-eight-year range. A source with knowledge on the game’s development is reported to have said: “The game, at this stage, is still looking to be years off from completion.”

The same source apparently suggested that the current development pipeline could be expedited if Quantic Dream were to expand the development staff. The chances of this occurring likely depend on the success of the studio’s recently released MOBA, Spellcasters Chronicles, with parent company NetEase unlikely to tip in more funding without seeing some success.

As of posting, Spellcasters Chronicles isn’t living its best life, with an all-time peak on Steam (its only platform) of less than 1,000 players.

Even if Star Wars Eclipse is still a long way off, Star Wars fans do have other projects to look forward to, including Casey Hudson’s Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, although this is likely a few years off. In the shorter term, both Galactic Racer and Star Wars: Zero Company are expected to launch in 2026.
