Just this morning, Respawn Entertainment pulled off something popularised by Steve Jobs during his tenure at Apple. They’ve announced and released their follow-up to Titanfall 2 on the same day. It’s called Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale.
Though it takes place within the Titanfall universe, it isn’t to be considered a direct sequel. It doesn’t feature titans in any way, shape or form and is strictly squad-based. While it features all of the regular genre tropes, it brings a trick bag of its own that sees it manage to stand apart in a market that is growing larger every day, it seems.
Apex Legends features eight characters at launch, though only six are playable from the get-go. Respawn announced plans to roll out content in a seasonal fashion, not unlike its competitors, so it’s safe to expect that roster to grow before too long.
Apex Legends is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
