Horizon Call Of The Mountain’s Protagonist Has Been Revealed

With the release of the PlayStation VR2 fast approaching on February 22nd, one of the tentpole launch titles and biggest drawcards for early adopters is Horizon Call of the Mountain, a PS VR2-exclusive new story set in the Horizon universe.

Now, Guerrilla Games has taken to the PlayStation Blog to finally give eager fans a little bit more context around just who they’ll be embodying in this new adventure.

Call of the Mountain’s playable protagonist is name Ryas, and he’s explained to be a defector from the Shadow Carja, a splinter group of the Carja tribe that players will remember as one of the core antagonistic groups in Horizon Zero Dawn. As explained in the post, Ryas in Call of the Mountain is seeking to atone for his part in the Shadow Carja’s ploys and so finds himself recruited by the Carja rulers to earn freedom in return for his help with a dangerous mission.

“Ryas ended up on the wrong side for the right reasons. His family was torn apart, and ultimately, he was incarcerated. This is the story of how he tries to come back from that,” says the game’s Narrative Director, Ben McCaw.

“Having fought for the Shadow Carja, Ryas’ relationship with these characters is at best adversarial. He needs to make inroads and amends if he hopes to be accepted.”

We recently went hands-on with the PlayStation VR2 and Horizon Call of the Mountain and came away impressed by the level of immersion and how PlayStation is bringing innovative tech to the VR space to power unique experiences.
