Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises a return to form for fans of the “classic” Assassin’s Creed titles, and Ubisoft brought with it a hefty, eight-minute gameplay deep dive trailer to today’s Ubisoft Forward showcase.
The gameplay walkthrough gives us a decent look at what to expect from the game, which takes inspiration from the very first Assassin’s Creed and merges it with a number of the advancements and added features that have appeared over the course of the rest of the franchise. Chronicling as-yet-untold tales of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Basim, it also serves as a nice tie into the series’ most modern entries.
The video begins with Basim en route to a contact, showing how the free-flowing and intuitive parkour of the older games has returned, looking a lot like the level of depth and environmental design of Assassin’s Creed Unity, complete with scrambling, rooftop chases through the city. We then see Basim purchase some tools from Abu Ja’far including a blowdart, before taking on a contract from a nearby board.
Basim comes complete with a trusty bird companion named Enkidu, who can scout the area from above like previous Assassin’s Creed pets, although in the footage it finds itself scared away by a nearby marksman. Social stealth returns as well, with the player able to blend neatly into crowds, and although combat still features it’s a much less RPG-ish proposition and again closer to the older games – the team notes that it’s really an emergencies-only type deal for when Basim is spotted and can’t escape, with stealth and quiet assassinations still the aim.
