Aussie PS5 Owners Will Have To Age Verify To Play R18+ Games Too

A few weeks ago we reported that Xbox was requiring Aussie gamers age verify in order to continue playing R18+ games and PlayStation is now requiring the same thing.

As of yesterday, the company started sending emails, push notifications and also published an FAQ on its Australian support website about age verification for PlayStation gamers.

Unlike Xbox, PlayStation seems to require that you use your face or ID to age verify, regardless of how long you’ve held an account, whilst Xbox seemed to use length of account ownership as a way to verify. The process is still fairly painless, and takes only a few minutes overall.

PlayStation confirmed on its website:

“As part of our commitment to online safety and age-appropriate play, we use age verification to help deliver the best PlayStation experience for your age and to help protect our younger players.

Age verification will soon be required for Australian adult accounts to add Restricted (R 18+)  rated games and content from PlayStation Store to your library. We recommend completing age verification to avoid interruptions.

If you have not completed age verification, you can continue playing on PlayStation, but you won’t be able to add Restricted (R 18+) rated games and content from PlayStation Store to your library when enforcement begins until you do.”

It isn’t mega clear when this restriction will come into place, and it seems as though it will only affect new games that you purchase or add to your library, but we’d still recommend verifying yourself to avoid any interruption (especially in the lead-up to GTA’s launch) and you can do that right HERE.
