iOS 18 Is Out Today And Brings Game Mode To The iPhone

Big!

iOS 18 dropped today for iPhones alongside major OS updates for iPad, Mac, Apple TV and the Apple Watch, but without doubt, iOS 18 is the big one for gamers as it bring Apple’s Game Mode to the iPhone for the first time.

Previously available on Macs, Game Mode minimises background activity to ensure that all of the computing power is being focused on the game being played to allow frame rates to be as high as possible.

It also reduces audio latency for AirPods, and for controllers such as the DualSense controller improves responsiveness and reduces latency as well by doubling the Bluetooth polling rate.

This automatically turns on when it detects a controller is connected and a game is being played, and it also allows your phone to block out notifications.

Other improvements to iOS 18 include Apple Intelligence (which will come in 18.1), major home screen customisation improvements, as well as a new Passwords app and big improvements to stock apps including Messages, Mail and Phone.

It’s going to be interesting to see how gaming improves when using the iPhone 16 Pro alongside Game Mode. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro range are set to launch this Friday with pre-orders being available now. You can pre-order on Amazon HERE.
