Aussies Will Now Have To Age Verify To Play R18+ Games On Xbox Series X/PC

In line with Australian regulations, Xbox has now confirmed that Aussies will now need to age verify to play R18+ games on both the Microsoft Store and Xbox Store on both Xbox Series X and PC.

This means that before you can purchase or play games that are rated 18+, you’ll have to do an age verification, with games that you already own not being affected.

For most people this will be a simple email-based age verification, presumably based on age of your email or Xbox account, but there’s a number of other ways that you can also verify your age including:

  • Email-based age verification
  • Facial age estimation using a secure selfie
  • Credit Card
  • Government-issued ID, such as your driver’s license, passport, national ID, or residence permit

If you’re wanting to do this before you’re prompted to verify, you can do so at this link HERE.

The notification that was sent to Xbox consoles and over email says: “As part of our compliance program in Australia, beginning late August 2026, adult XBOX accounts must verify their age to be able to access apps and games rated 18+ on the Microsoft and XBOX Store. Access to such content may be restricted unless you verify your age. Apps and games you already own won’t be affected. Select below to verify now. Please ignore if you’ve already verified.”
