Cancelled Dragon Age 2 Expansion Revealed

At a Q&A at GX Australia yesterday, former-Bioware creative David Gaider revealed and discussed details of a cancelled expansion for Dragon Age 2.

The expansion, that was ultimately scrapped to give Dragon Age: Inquisition more time for development, would have continued Hawke’s story and ultimately ended with Varric’s death as a closing note.

While he suggested some of the expansion content was reworked into Inquisition, Gaider claimed that a lot of it had to be cut due to the focus on Hawke.

In addition, Gaider also revealed that earlier plans for Dragon Age: Inquisition envisioned a game close to double in size to what was released in 2014.

At this time, the development of the next Dragon Age title is an unknown quantity with Bioware’s sole currently-listed project being Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Gaider worked at Bioware for 17 years. He was involved as a writer and designer on Balder’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and the Dragon Age series
