SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe (or SHCU) is quickly becoming quite the spectacle, tapping some pretty big stars to voice its intergalactic talking animals. After introducing Knuckles the Echidna, played by Idris Elba and already being spun off into his own TV series, the movies are adding another iconic character with the third entry – Shadow the Hedgehog.
Now, as reportedly shared by multiple sources via The Hollywood Reporter, it seems as though the edgiest, hedgiest motorcycling, gun-toting character of them all will be played by none other than Keanu Reeves. Yep, it seems as though Reeves will be joining his Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty co-feature in portraying a spiny mammal from space.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is premiering in December this year, and CinemaCon-goers last week were also treated to the first footage which showed Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik supposedly sporting a look much closer to his video game counterpart, at least temporarily.
After last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog-themed campaign titled Fast. Friends. Forever., SEGA has come back with a whole attitude in 2024 to declare this year the year of Shadow the Hedgehog in a new campaign dubbed Fearless: Year of Shadow.
Like last time, SEGA’s got a bunch of promotional stuff planned for the Year of Luigi Shadow, including a custom motorcycle set to do a tour of the MotoGP circuit, new events in the Sonic mobile games, new LEGO sets, an appearance at the Sonic Symphony World Tour and of course Shadow’s big feature in the remaster of Sonic Generations. Take a look at what’s happening:
