IKEA Australia Is Launching A New Gaming Furniture Range This Year

Flatpac-man.

It’s been a few years since IKEA partnered with ROG for a gaming-focused furniture line, but the Swedish homewares giant has decided to take another run at it with a wholly original new collection dubbed BRÄNNBOLL.

Seemingly named after a sport played in a number of European countries, the BRÄNNBOLL line is launching in September this year in IKEA Australia stores, and features pieces created for a broader gaming audience with casual styles and furniture that supports a multitude of platforms and postures through modular, multifunctional designs.

Most of the new items seem to seating-focused, with beanbags, armchairs with suspended seats presumably to accommodate the fidgeting gamer, desk chairs and even an inflatable seat that looks like a hazmat-grade hemorrhoid cushion ($79). There’s also a “gaming station” that folds shut for discretion ($399), a heap of neat-looking storage solutions and of course plenty of accessories. And a gaming rug. If that’s a thing.

“With BRÄNNBOLL, we are embracing the idea that gaming is for everyone and belongs everywhere in the home. It’s about making it simple for people to create spaces that adapt to gaming, living, and everything in between,” says Philip Dilé, Product Design Developer at IKEA, in a press release. “We hope this collection will encourage friends and families to engage together, bringing joy and connection through shared gaming experiences.”

“Drawing inspiration from how people move when they play video games, I wanted to create a chair that activates the player, to enhance this interaction. This connection between the player and the game can hopefully lead to a more engaging and immersive experience”, adds David Wahl, Designer at IKEA.
