FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have revealed a huge, early milestone for Elden Ring’s huge Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, revealing that the expansion has already moved over 5 million units in just the first week of its launch.
Given that the base game had sold around 25 million copies at last count, that suggest roughly 20% of all Elden Ring players have stepped out into the Realm of Shadow, no doubt spurred on in part by glowing reviews and the promise of even bigger challenges than we’d faced to date.

That new challenge evidently proved a little too steep for some, with early user reviews seeing some complaints around difficulty, a phenomenon which FromSoftware quickly addressed with a slight rebalancing of Shadow of the Erdtree’s DLC-specific progression system, Scadutree Blessings.
We gave Shadow of the Erdtree a massive 10/10 in our review, with Harry saying, “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is yet another masterpiece by FROMSOFTWARE. It doubles down on all of the best parts of Elden Ring and bolsters them through an inviting new world, an engaging story, and a ridiculously moreish gameplay loop. It won’t change your mind on Elden Ring if it never clicked for you, but will undoubtedly wow you if it did.”
You can get a physical copy of Elden Ring which includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for $99 at Amazon right now.
