Splitgate Is Getting An Unreal Engine 5-Powered Sequel Next Year

Time to split!

The original Splitgate was a bit of a minor success story when it launched in early access all the way back in 2019, eventually making its way to consoles in 2021 and then launching in full in 2022. The game started as a Portal-inspired school project developed in a dorm room at Stanford University, and took off in a huge way in its earliest public demos.

Developers Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian were eventually able to fund the game for real and it saw a good amount of popularity through beta periods and the final launch.

Now, 1047 Games has finally unveiled its follow-up, Splitgate 2, which is slated to launch for PC and consoles in 2025 as a free-to-play title.

The sequel is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, with a now-seasoned team of developers, promising a much more confident and polished experience with plenty of lessons learned from the development and release of the original. Features promised in the next game include new character models, maps, weapons, portal walls and portals, and even a narrative universe filled with lore – including free Splitgate 2 comics already available to read in a dedicated companion app.
