The Australian Federal Court has today ruled on the decision in regards to Apple and Google abusing their power when it comes to in-app payments and app distribution and found in favour of Epic Games. This comes years after Apple famously kicked Fortnite after the app store after Epic Games were pointing people off-platform to make in-app purchases, which kicked off a wave of lawsuits across the world.

This seemingly means that Fortnite and the Epic Games Store will come to iOS in Australia which likely means that Apple will need to allow for third-party storefronts like it does in the EU and other parts of the world.

Whilst we’re still waiting on more information, the statement was posted on the Epic Games Newsroom X account and was also provided to us over email with the below message:

“The Epic Games Store and Fortnite will come to iOS in Australia! An Australian court just found that Apple and Google abuse their control over app distribution and in-app payments to limit competition. There are 2,000+ pages of findings that we’ll need to dig into to fully understand the details. This is a WIN for developers and consumers in Australia!”

We’ll keep you updated as this story unfolds with more information, but we expect that this will happen in the very near future.
